Jack – Straight from the gut

Jack – Straight from the gut – Thats the book my friend had bought in a book fair in Wipro some 2 years ago. My friend who was aspiring to do an MBA was interested in business books and he told me that this was one good book that I had to read. Business books never interested me until now.

Now that I have been slowly growing in my career path as a leader and a manager, I have consiously decided to read books on business and leadership. And needless to say that Jack Welsh is one guy anyone would refer to, who has been a great leader and super CEO in the recent past.

To be frank, I din’t know who Jach Welsh was until I was in my 2nd year of work at Wipro .

Now that I was thinking to buy some book on business leadership, the book that came to my thought was ‘Jack- Straight from the gut’. Finally I had bought the book last weekend and have started going through some intial chapters of the book.

I have loved reading each word in this book (I am still in the first few chapters and have a long way before I finish this book) because of the way in which it has been written – in a frank and open manner. I think it is really straight from the gut. The book is really riveting.

Coming to what I have felt about Jack in the first few pages after reading this book, I think he is an arrogant guy with a great ego. But I like that. I guess his policy is very simple.. have the best guys around you and sack the incompitent pack and keep best guys well paid and always rewarded. Thats a good strategy, but it takes a lot of courage to be this way.

I am going to read the rest of the book and probably I would understand atleast to some extent who Jack Welsh really is. And I believe I can get some good lessons which would prove useful during my own career growth.
